J-E-L-L-Ohh… Actually, its G-E-L-A-T-I-N!

Hi! I’m Sondra Rubin an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Founder of Anu Ayurveda Health Center. I love Ayurveda and what it has done to better my health. When I can, I love to share easy American Style recipes to incorporate into a healthy way of life for myself and my clients. For those of you who don’t know about Ayurveda, it is an ancient holistic system of medicine that originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is the sister science of Yoga.

What is Gelatin?

Gelatin is derived from collagen, which is a protein found in animal connective tissues. Collagen is an essential component of the skin, providing structure and elasticity. When you live in an environment that is dry and arid, its important to add gelatin to your diet to keep elasticity in your skin to combat the dryness in the environment. Also, as we age its good to support the elasticity in the skin by adding gelatin into our diet to prevent wrinkles and I am convinced it helps reduce cellulite (but that’s my opinion!). Here is an amazing recipe that uses natural ingredients that benefit the skin. Its a delicious dessert or snack in the summer!

Ingredients:

4 Cups Organic Apple Juice

5 Tsp Vital Proteins Gelatin

Directions:

1. In a large flat square or rectangular glass Pyrex dish (recommend with a snap lid), Pour in 1 cup of Organic Apple Juice and add 5 Tsp of Vital Proteins Gelatin, Mix together with a fork or spoon. Set aside.

2. In the meantime, add the remaining 3 cups of the Organic Apple Juice into a stove pot and bring to a boil, then pour into the glass Pyrex dish with the gelatin mixture. Mix and wait until it cools appropriately 10 minutes, close the snap lid and put into the fridge and wait until it cools and forms into gelatine – approximately 1-2 hours.
